Waste Connections Donates to Denver Charities

At Waste Connections of Colorado, we give what we can because investing in our community is the right thing to do.

Denver Day of Rock

Denver Day of Rock

Since 2013, Waste Connections is a proud sponsor and in-kind contributor to the annual Denver Day of Rock. This free event was created to raise funds and awareness of non-profits in Denver. Day of Rock, along Denver’s 16th Street Mall, draws 100,000 people and features music over Memorial Day Weekend. Waste Connections donates 100 onsite port-a-lets, portable hand wash stations and solid waste removal of 150 yards of event-generated waste.

“Waste Connections has been an amazing partner for years,” says Julia Simmons, executive director. “We started out in one parking lot and now we take over five streets. We are happy to be aligned with Waste Connections.”

Waste Connections employees contribute to the Food Bank of the Rockies, which ensures that no one in Denver goes hungry. Every Thanksgiving, Waste Connections employees help serve meals and build palettes of food that are delivered to the elderly.

Employees volunteer to prepare meals at the Denver Rescue Mission, which is a longtime customer of Waste Connections. “It’s wonderful to be able to volunteer our time for these organizations that support the community,” says Steve Ortmayer, Territory Manager for Waste Connections.

Christmas Promise Bike Build

For 18 years, Waste Connections has hosted the annual Christmas Promise Bike Build. Last year, WC employees built and delivered 290 bikes and helmets to local organizations that benefit children.

In Denver, one of the largest gifts went to a community pantry after school-program called Grow Haus. The organization provides educational and nutrition classes for after-school programs for struggling families. Adoption Options also receives bikes from Waste Connections. The agency works with children in foster care and struggling new mothers. “We try to seek out any organization that touches children and families in our Denver community,” says Cooper Jackman, territory sales rep for Waste Connections of Colorado.

Nationally, Waste Connections delivered 8,000 bikes and helmets to local charities.
